The story
It is 1810 and the rumors are no longer gossip: the conspiracy for Mexico's independence has been discovered and royalist troops are at the door. The heavy iron locks have been shut by order of the Corregidor himself, trapping you in the suffocating darkness of the basement.
In the darkness, Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez —“La Corregidora”, heroine of the independence movement— demands absolute loyalty to the cause. She has an insurgent messenger at her command. His horse is saddled and he must ride to San Miguel el Grande to warn the captains, but he cannot leave blind: he needs the password, and the basement is surrounded by spies.
Before you waits a secret three-course dinner, but the royalists have tampered with the food. Your mission is to decode the escape route through her famous taconazo —the heel taps she used, according to history, to warn the conspirators. In the silence of the room, La Corregidora will begin striking the wooden floor with her heel, marking a secret cadence.
You must listen closely, memorize the sequence and repeat the exact rhythm with your own foot so the code travels across the table to the messenger. That same beat is your key to survival: the taps tell you the precise order in which to eat each bite in the dark without being discovered by the intruder. Lose the rhythm, let fear slow you down or bite into the wrong course, and you will swallow betrayal and the insurgency will die with you in this basement before seeing the light of a new nation.
